What do you want to be when you grow up? What’s your dream job?

It’s a question that we start being asked as early as when we’re at school. Or even before!

When I was young, I went through a whole host of things. Over the years, my dream job included Ballerina, Doctor, Journalist (my hero was Kate Adie at the time)… But those things were left behind due to a combination of ineptitude (both ballet and science!) and simply a change of interests.

Then after university, my hunt for the dream job took me down the route of learning Russian – due initially to the fact that I had already studied French and German and wanted something new; and the fact that I am named in honour of a certain Anna Karenina. I wanted to be a UN interpreter, but sadly verbs of motion and a lack of confidence got the better of me.

Now, though, I am being exactly what I want to be. Regardless of how hard I work, or how many hours, I have my dream job. I’m a working mum with the most amazing little girl. I’m working for myself. And I’m making a difference to people. I’m challenged, every day. Each day I learn new things. I feel like I’ve found what I’m ‘supposed’ to be doing.

So what about you? What’s your dream job? Are you doing it already? If not, what’s stopping you?

*And if you want to know – if I wasn’t half of the founding team for this business, I’d love to run a cake shop!
