The Belgian Arms - coworking venue

The concept of coworking – that is, working in a space occupied by other self-employed people, or those working for different employers than yours – enjoyed huge global growth prior to the pandemic. In the UK alone, there were more than 6,000 flexible co-working spaces by the end of 2021.

That said, and despite the ongoing uncertainties connected to Covid-19, and questions over what the ‘new normal’ might look like, we think that co-working will remain a powerful force!

So what are the benefits of coworking?

Coworking Benefit #1: Community

We all know how challenging it can be to work on your own. One day, things can be amazing. The next, they take a nose-dive. Not only do you have no-one to seek support or input from when you work by yourself, but research from before the pandemic showed that 48% of freelancers described their working life as ‘lonely’.This makes the creation of a community around you, one of the most important benefits of coworking.

Instead of isolation, coworking provides you with a ‘team’. A tribe. A network. This ‘team’ can be something as simple as being able to work ‘with’ people, or it might be that you’re looking for a more pro-active support network. For example, working with people, rather than on your own, automatically provides people to ask when you’re stuck, or when you need advice or feedback.

Coworking Benefit #2: Productivity

The knock-on effect is that having a community around you can be hugely beneficial in boosting your productivity. Working with others creates a ‘buzz’ around us. Seeing others making progress through their tasks automatically makes us feel motivated to do the same. In addition, being in a focussed coworking space also removes ‘home-based’ distractions. The dishwasher and the doorbell can be the enemy of productivity! In short, coworking provides you with an ideal environment to beat procrastination and get things done!

Coworking Benefit #3: Accountability

The power of this particular benefit depends on the nature of the environment in which you choose to work and the way that it functions. Every co-working space is unique. But to demonstrate its potential for accountability, we can use Tabono’s own coworking events as a case in point.

Tabono isn’t a fixed coworking space. Instead, we offer ‘pop-up’ coworking in Marlow and Holyport, near Maidenhead, plus two additional, virtual coworking sessions each month. At the beginning of each session, we ask attendees what they are going to be working on. We check in with those who need it during the session, and then again at the end. The intention being that by doing so, we provide people with accountability. And knowing that someone will hold us accountable propels us all forward.

Benefits of coworking with Tabono

If you’re reading this as a women in business, why not come and experience the benefits of coworking the Tabono way? The ‘pop-up’ nature of our events mean that you don’t have to commit for any longer than the duration of the event itself – you can join us as and when you wish. And of course, if you’re a member of the Tabono community, you can join any or all of our coworking (and networking!) events at no extra cost whatsoever!
