It’s true to say that some of us are more organised than others, and also that different things work for different people. In a recent post, I shared 42 ways to get organised in your business. I hope you found the tips helpful if you’ve already read the list. In today’s post though, I want to unpack this a little further and talk about why being organised is the key to success.

For every hour spent organising, an hour is earned.

5 reasons why being organised is the key to success

Personally, I couldn’t agree more with Mr Franklin’s words. Why? Quite simply, because being organised – when done in a way that works for you – can dramatically increase your chances of achieving your goals. To demonstrate why, here are five reasons why being organised is the key to success in your business and in your life as a whole.

1) Clarity

An organised mind is one that can think clearly. One that can see where it is that you’re going, and how you’re going to get there. The sense of clarity that provides then makes it easier to break down those big goals into more manageable stages, which in itself increases both confidence and the likelihood of making progress.

2) Focus

A second reason why being organised is the key to success is the ability to focus. Being organised helps us to focus on the right things. Consequently, it minimises the likelihood of distraction. As a result, your productivity increases and again, you become able to move closer to achieving your goals.

3) Prioritisation

A third natural benefit of being more organised is the ability to prioritise. We become more able to focus on the most important tasks, knowing that the more minor activities are either scheduled for another time, or being dealt with by other means.

4) Time management

We all only have a certain number of hours in the day. And we all have a natural ceiling for what we can achieve in that time. By being well organised, we ensure that we are able to use our time as effectively as possible. In turn, overwhelm reduces and we maintain an appropriate work-life balance and are able to focus on what we need to get done.

5) Stress reduction

The fifth reason why being organised is the key to success is stress reduction. When we are organised, our sense of control increases, and with that, our confidence and self-belief. Then, our ability to tackle challenges and obstacles whilst maintaining our motivation, increases further.

And the icing on the cake?

Accountability. Yes, having a specific accountability appointments, like the ones I hold for my coaching clients, can increase your chances of achieving your goals by up to 95%. But when you’re organised, you can also find the time and head-space to hold yourself accountable. You can track your progress, and see the results of your efforts over time.

And with progress comes motivation, confidence and ultimately, success – whatever that success looks like to you.
