Did you know that today is World Sleep Day? We all know how important sleep is for our health and wellbeing. Yet it’s something that a lot of us can struggle with, especially when we’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed. So, in honour of World Sleep Day, we decided to ask our founders and our members for some of their top sleep tips for making sure we all get some good, well-deserved shut-eye!

1) Get some daylight

– from Juliet Hartis, Harmony Osteopathy:

Getting 20 minutes of daylight before 10am is a trick to really help set your circadian rhythm. If you know you’re going to be windowless office- bound, have your morning coffee/tea outside or walk to school/work. Make sure you leave your sunglasses at home aswell, as if you don’t, your eyes won’t receive the necessary level of light that helps with your melatonin (sleep hormone) release pattern.

2) Choose your colours wisely

– from Katie Hone, The Coloursmith

Choose the colours in your bedroom wisely. Make sure you go for those that will help you to relax at the end of the day.

3) Use a sleep mist

– from Adi Stephen, Tropic Skincare

Everyone knows how important sleep is. For our mental wellbeing, to help our bodies recover and rest and of course for our skin, because that’s when the cell renewal takes place. It’s the cornerstone of a healthy mind, body and soul. By blending seven premium distilled essential oils, including the infamous lavender (proven sleep-inducing qualities) and eucalyptus (excellent for getting rid of that horrible head fog that can stop you switching off), Tropic’s ‘So Sleepy’ is a fast-track way to feeling calm, soothed and ready for bed.

4) Use a restorative night cream

– from Jane Curtis, Warren Beauty

Dermalogica has a wonderful night cream that helps improve your sleep, and even has it’s own clever widget which features a 20 minute sleep sound DIY facial massage and restorative sleep tips. Try out the Sound Sleep Cocoon – a revitalising treatment gel-cream that transforms skin overnight by optimizing nighttime skin recovery.

5) Get into a routine

– from Anna Verghese, co-founder of Tabono

We’ve all heard the term ‘body clock’… by making sure that we get into, and stay in a routine – even at the weekend – we can train our body to know when it’s bedtime, making it much easier to get to sleep.

6) Turn off the screens

– from Chloe Leibowitz, co-founder of Tabono

Turn screens off at least an hour before bed, including tv as the blue lights messes up your sleep cycle.
